Pinnacle Physical Therapy has physical and occupational therapists trained in the Graston Technique.
The Graston Technique is utilized to address soft tissue adhesions, scar tissue, and trigger points regularly seen with musculoskeletal conditions. It utilizes shaped tools that contour to specific parts of the body to effectively release restrictions. Deeper restrictions are able to be elevated and treated because the metal surface of the instruments do not compress like the fat pads of the hand.
Soft tissue treatments that were applied by hand in the past resolve quicker through stimulation of the healing process by:
– Increasing blood flow to bring nutrients in and waste products out.
– Increases cellular activity of fibroblasts allowing maturation of healing tissue.
– Mechanical breakdown of collagen cross links allowing the tissue to heal with improved tissue extensibility.
The graston technique is effective for both chronic and acute conditions as it enhances the bodies healing process. Some of these conditions include:
–plantar fasciitis
-tennis elbow/lateral epicondylitis
-golfers elbow/medial epicondylitis
-achilles tendonitis
-muscle strains including hamstring, calf, quad.
-knee pain
-back pain, neck pain.
The Graston Technique may be used in conjunction with other soft tissue techniques include trigger point dry needling and myofascial release. Addressing soft tissue dysfunction is the first step in a program which should also include flexibility, strengthening, improving movement patterns/functional training, and modalities.
